The destruction of Sehlala nge nkani squatter settlement in Musina turned into a well-respected and dignified residential area with the newly constructed RDP houses.

The Sihlala nge nkani squatter settlement was destroyed by the Musina Municipality last year, in an effort to improve living conditions of the people of Musina. The time this squatter settlement was destroyed, it was said to be harbouring illegal immigrants, most of which were Zimbabweans.

In an exclusive interview, the mayor of Musina Municipality, Cllr Caroline Mahasele, said that she was very grateful about the success of her municipality. Mahasele added that she was happy now that the crime rate has been reduced and the issue of illegal immigrants has been dealt with, as the area was known for harbouring them.

"We are glad that we have managed to establish and construct a proper location with proper housing that offers our people adequate and improved living conditions," she outlined.

When Mirror visited the area, constructors where still busy with the building of houses on the site. One of the beneficiaries of the project, who did not want to be named, told Mirror that although some people were not happy when the shacks were destroyed, he was happy that the municipality had managed to provide a proper and conducive living environment. "I appreciate the efforts done by our municipality. May God bless the mayor, Caroline Mahasele," he said.
