The community around Sinthumule and Kutama and members of the United African Apostolic Church flocked in large numbers to witness and pay their last respects to granny Tshinyelo Dora Muzila who was considered the world’s oldest person over the weekend.
Mudzila was laid to rest at the Rathidili cemetery on Sunday last week, after she had passed away at her Rathidili home on Monday, the 14th of January this year. She was 127 years old.
Archbishop Miriri of the United African Apostolic Church was one of the dignitaries who paid his last respects to granny Mudzila. According to Miriri, the granny always obeyed the Word of God. "May her soul rest in peace," he said.
Miriri added that Mudzila was one of very few people who had witnessed a "star" falling at the church’s headquarters at Nzhelele a long time ago.
She was born at Vhuvhirwa, next to the Mberengwa mountains in Zimbabwe on May 4, 1880, and outlived five of her children, and was left with the only one daughter, Mrs Johanna Rambau, who is in her mid-80s.
According to one of the community members, Mudzila will always be remembered of her good work by her church members and the community in which she served for so many years.
