SANRAL to first study N1 intersection

News  Date: 15 February 2008

Following last week’s article about the dangerous N1/Elim intersection just south of Louis Trichardt, a reply was eventually received from SANRAL (South African National Roads Agency Limited).

In the article, it was stated that SANRAL, as the responsible authority, was asked to respond as to what can be done to make this intersection safer. This was on January 22. Two weeks later, despite several follow-up calls and e-mails, there was still no reply and in the meantime the intersection was yet again the scene of another couple of near-fatal accidents.

On Monday, the office of the Zoutpansberger received an e-mail from Mr Ismail Essa, provincial head of SANRAL.

"I am aware of your enquiry. We are working on this, but it is not as simple to respond to this. There are some studies, observations traffic counts, etc. that need to be done before we respond in detail. We will provide an answer by Tuesday, February 19," wrote Mr Essa.
