Electrification problem to be solved - Bobodi

News  Date: 07 March 2008

In continuation of a report about the dissatisfaction amongst residents of several villages about the proposed electrification of villages in the area, the municipality met with the communities of Muwaweni, Madadzhi and Tswikha in the Mulima area on Tuesday.

The communities had an urgent meeting with the municipality as a result of their area´s not being included on the tender list advertisement that appeared in this newspaper on February 22. As a result of the meeting, it was agreed that the municipality would investigate the matter and meet the communities again on Tuesday.

According to the secretary of the energy forum in the respective areas, Mr Daniel Masindi, at the meeting that was held on Tuesday this week, the municipality promised that the villages of Muwaweni, Madadzhi and Tswikha were going to be electrified the at same time as the villages in which their tenders had already being advertised.

"The municipality also promised that they are going to advertise another tender that will cover Muwaweni, Madadzhi and Tswikha, before next Friday," revealed Masindi.

The areas has been without electricity since the new political dispensation in 1994, but according to the villagers, during the national and local elections, they were promised a "better service delivery and a better life for all".

Asked about the outcome of the meeting, the spokesperson of the Makhado Municipality, Mr Louis Bobodi acknowledged that "as a result of the investigations like we had promised in the previous meeting, we found that there was an omission of the areas. We had rectified that mistake. We are going to advertise another tender to electrify those areas, not later than next week Friday," he said.

Bobodi also indicated that the areas will be electrified the same time as the ones in which their tenders had already been advertised.
