THOHOYANDOU - Two women were arrested by the police in Thohoyandou for being found in possession of two bags of dagga at Muledane on Tuesday.

According to the Liaison Officer of the Thohoyandou Police Station, Nkanukeni Raedani, the two, aged 30 and 36, were arrested after the police had received information from the community. “The police rushed to the village and confiscated 11,2 kg of dagga,” he said. “The street value of the dagga is R11 000,” he added.

Raedani said that, as from June 2004, the police have managed to arrest a Zulu-speaking man who was distributing 31 kg of dagga in Thohoyandou and confiscated the stash during a roadblock staged along the Dzindi road. “The street value of the dagga was R31 000,” Raedani said.

“Other bags of dagga were confiscated along the Tshilidzini road when a car that was transporting dagga collided with another car,” he said. He further said that the three persons were arrested in connection with this incident.

When going to press, the two women had not yet appeared in court in connection with the case.
