A mass feeding scheme for children in Tshikota got underway this week, when food was prepared and dished up on Sunday at a make-shift service point in the residential area to the west of Louis Trichardt.
The feeding project was initiated by Ms Helena van den Heever of Thusani Building Contractors, with the aid of several business donors in town. She repeated Sunday’s food serving in Tshikota on Wednesday this week.
"We intend to keep up this venture to feed the children of Tshikota at least twice a week, if the residents of Louis Trichardt will make it possible for us by making regular donations of ingredients which we can use in preparing food for the children. We intend to take this project into Louis Trichardt town also to assist, amongst others, the large number of breadwinners from the surrounding villages who suffer while trying to get "piece jobs" with which to earn something to feed their families back home. Regular donations of meat, potatoes and other vegetables to prepare soup for the people are essential for this project to meet its aim of providing relief, mainly for the children of families hard-pressed by poverty and the soaring prices of food," said Van den Heever.
Van den Heever was inspired to start this feeding project when she saw the dire circumstances of children in Tshikota during regular visits with her husband, who at present manages a building project in the township. She thanked the sponsors who had made it possible to launch this feeding scheme. They are Far North Super Spar, Buyers World and Grassnyer Kliniek.
Anyone who would like to contribute with food donations to the project can contact Helena or Pierre van den Heever at either 015 516 1653 or 079 573 6397 or Jumara Munyai at 078 856 8989.
