"This year, only the House of Traditional Leaders will be allowed to run initiation schools," said the chairperson of the Limpopo House of Traditional Leaders, Khosi Vho-Vusani Netshimbupfe.
Netshimpbupfe said that his organization would send officials to the mountain schools to monitor the situation, because in the previous years, several cases of young people who lost their lives at some of the schools were reported. Netshimpbupfe said that no person was allowed to conduct an initiation school without a permit issued by his organization.
"We want our people to understand that no person is allowed to abduct another for the purpose of taking him to an initiation school. As soon as we become aware that a person has been abducted and taken to an initiation school, we will order the release of such a person and immediately report the matter."
Netshimbupfe said that the Department of Health and Welfare will also visit the initiation schools, and further said that if they become aware of the violation of any condition of the regulations, they will report the mater to the police.
"Children who want to go to the mountain schools must undergo medical check-ups before they were admitted at the schools," said Netshimbupfe. Parent must also produce a medical report that states that their child is fit to be allowed at the mountain school.
