Hairstylist Luanri Fick created the hairstyle and Noelene Dercksen is the hair model. Luanri entered the photo, taken by Yolande Olivier, for the Goldwell Trend Zoom Colour Challenge and it was selected to be sent to Germany to compete with entries worldwide.

Hairstylists Connie de Sousa and Luanri Fick have done it again. These local but internationally recognised hairdressers have put Louis Trichardt amongst the inter-coiffure Who’s Who once again.

Goldwell’s international Trend Zoom Colour Challenge competition required creative trendsetters among hairdressers to send in a photo of the end result of a trend that they had created. They could choose to interpret one of two trends, Rockmantic or Newstalgia. Connie and Luanri both chose the Rockmantic trend.

They received a pleasant surprise when they heard last week that both their creations are among the top national entries and their photos will be sent from South Africa to Germany to compete with top entries from around 35 countries worldwide.

The local talent responsible for the photography is Yolande Olivier from Reflection Photography Studio. Connie and Luanri are of C Jay’s and this year they decided to use their colleagues as hair models. Connie styled Elmarie Nel’s hair and Luanri used Noelene Dercksen as model.

"We used each other so that, if the judges in Germany choose our photos, we all can go to Spain," Connie said. Winners will be invited to participate at the international live hands-on competition in Valencia, Spain, in October. Hairstylists will travel with their models and redo the whole look there.

The international jury consist of famous independent hairdressers, members of the professional press and fashion experts. The jury’s decision is based on the interpretation of world trends, colour technique, product use, appearance and attractiveness of the total style, harmony of cut and colour and the aesthetics of the photo.

In 2004, Connie was selected by Goldwell South Africa to represent the country in Berlin in this same competition. The year after that, Goldwell selected Luanri to go to Amsterdam.

"This year, the competition has changed slightly. In the past, South Africa decided on the national winners, but this year the judges in Germany will choose," Connie said.

The Rockmantic trend that Connie and Luanri chose is a merging of rock and romanticism.

"Rockmantic is all about contrasting elements that are merged to create a fascinating whole ... The hair is all about skilfully placed contrasts that are created by placing light and dark cool shades right next to each other ... we can’t wait to see your interpretation of Rockmantic," reads the competition brochure. And Louis Trichardt is waiting to see of the town can rejoice with their hairstylists if they are invited to Spain.
