Mbilwi Secondary School received a shot in the arm, after a well-known bank donated R65 000 to them.
The money is part of Standard Bank’s corporal social investment project that aims to enhance the standard of mathematics and science results at schools. It is also aimed at encouraging best-performing schools in the province to work even harder. Mbilwi, as the best performing school in the province, received the money for their effort. The prize was handed over to the school during a special function at the school hall last week.
It also became the first school in the province to qualify in the Club 100 last year after it produced more than 100 passes in Mathematics.
The principal of Mbilwi, Mr Nditsheni Ramugondo, said he was honoured to lead a best-performing school like Mbilwi. He said the only challenge he faced was to keep up the good standards, but he and his staff have made sure that their learners do not disappoint them at the end of each year. “We look back with pride on the quality of results we have produced in mathematics and science over the years,” he said. He thanked Standard Bank for the gift and promised to keep up the standard.
Sibasa Circuit Manager Mr Vhangani Mathalauga was full of praises for the school which he said was the only one which produced 100% results in the circuit. He said the department was humbled by what Standard Bank was doing in partnering government in the improvement of education. “On behalf of the Department of Education, we have great appreciation for such partnerships which will not only motivate our learners but also our educators and also serve to cement the relationship between the private sector and the department,” he said.
