CA say they will not attend “consultative” meeting

News  Date: 22 August 2008

Mr André Naudé, chairman of the Chairpersons Association, said on Wednesday that they will not attend the Makhado Municipality’s “so-called” consultative meeting in regard to the naming and renaming of streets and other important infrastructure names scheduled for Friday, August 22, at the Louis Trichardt Show Grounds.

This, he said, was due to the short notice they received regarding the meeting, making it impossible to change their already busy schedules. Other invitees, including the Soutpansberg Ratepayers Association, the agricultural sector and the Soutpansberg Chamber of Commerce, also expressed the same view.

“No agenda has been forwarded to us either. It is unfortunate that dates, venues and times had been imposed unilaterally by the municipality without consulting any of the above organizations in respect of an acceptable time, date and venue,” said Naudé.

“In the meantime, it has come to our attention that 14 of the municipality’s graders are at present not operational, due to the fact that the municipality neglected to take out licenses for these machines; sewerage is still spilling out at the maximum security prison, bad audit reports have been reported in the newspaper and still the municipality prioritizes the dividing name-change issue, rather than focussing on reallly important service delivery,” Naudé added. He said it seemed as if the Makhado Municipality had become totally hostile against their taxpayers whom they are supposed to serve. Naudé said that they did not view Friday’s gathering as a consultative meeting.
