In an impressive move to accelerate service delivery, the Musina Local Municipality acquired seven new vehicles at a cost of R2,1m last Friday.

The vehicles consist of a specially built truck which is fitted with a crane and picker. The municipality did not have this equipment before and they depended on hiring it from service providers whenever the need arose. The new truck will assist the technical department when working with high electric wires and carrying heavy loads above the ground.  An operator from the municipality has already been trained to use the special machine.

Also in store is a special explorer tractor, which will also be used by the technical department for general garden work, including slashing parks, stadiums and golf courses. The tractor will also be used for cutting and bailing lucern at the local economic development project of the municipality. It will also at times be fitted with a trailer to assist with refuse removal.

In addition, three new bakkies will also be used by the technical department and one sedan will be used by the traffic services. This comes as a relief to the traffic services since they only had two cars before. A double cab has been allocated to the office of the mayor.

Municipal Manager Abram Luruli said the acquisition of the new vehicles is a clear indication that the municipality is serious about service delivery. “Despite limited resources, we have worked very hard in the past and scooped several awards for service delivery. This step is a true assurance to our people that we will continue to serve them diligently and render efficient services as mandated by the legislation of this country.”

Obviously filled with joy, Mayor Caroline Mahasela said: “This shows that we are moving in the right direction and our people must know that we spend sleepless nights, doing our best to make sure that our people are properly served.”
