Houses for Phiphidi's disabled

News  Date: 16 April 2004

PHIPHIDI – A disabled man, Mr Tshimangadzo "Freeze" Gethe of Phiphidi Village, was over the moon when the Local Government and Housing MEC, Mr Joe Maswanganyi, granted him a four-roomed house on Sunday.

Gethe is one of the beneficiaries of the Rural Development Programme (RDP). He received one of the 400 houses built in the Phiphidi, Ngudza, Ngovhela, Ngulumbi, Maungani, Itsani, Tshisahulu, Duthuni, Tshitereke and Makhuvha Villages. "The houses were built at an amount of R9 240 000, and in the Thulamela Municipality, my department has allocated another 950 units for this financial year, of which 150 of these are part of the People's Housing Process (PHP)," he said.

Maswanganyi thanked the developers for completing the houses without any problems.

Mr Tshimangadzo Gethe said he was not aware that he would one day get a house like others. He was dwelling in a one-roomed house and his 16-year-old daughter Mutshinyani was staying with members of their family because of the lack of space, but now she will be moving back.
