Two families were left without shelter at Bungeni Nwamhandzi village last Thursday, after fire destroyed their houses.
The houses of the Sithole and Ntuli families were destroyed last Thursday evening. According to a report, their new neighbour started the fire while burning several items in the nearby bushes. It is alleged that, due to a sudden wind, the fire flared up and burnt down the houses of the two families.
According to Chief Vicky Chabalala, a community meeting was held on Sunday but they have not yet concluded to the matter, due to the absence of the husband of the alleged culprit. He said that the families want her to pay for all the damages, but the community has decided to pay R5 per family to assist the two families.
Chabalala warned the villagers to think of the consequences before they make fire, especially if it is near houses.
