News  Date: 19 September 2008

The Malamulele police have arrested a police constable in connection with attempted robbery last Thursday.

Const Mulalo Madala (30), who is a police officer attached to the Tshilwavhusiku police, was arrested on allegations of attempted robbery. He was arrested at Malamulele but later transferred to the Makhado SAPS and briefly appeared in the Louis Trichardt Magistrate Court on Monday.

The spokesman for the Makahdo police, Cap Maano Sadiki, confirmed that Madala was transferred to Makhado from Malamulele where he was arrested on allegations of taking part in an attempted robbery. “The case was postponed to September 22nd for a bail application,” he said.

According to Sadiki, Madala has other pending cases of attempted robbery, as he was once arrested on three counts in Louis Trichardt, three in Waterpoort and one in Malamulele. When contacted for comment, the station commissioner for the Tshilwavhusiku police, Supt Freddy Shirinda, indicated that he was contacted by the Malamulele police, notifying him of constable Madala’s arrest.

According to Shirinda, he doesn’t know if the allegation is true or not. “I only learnt about Madala’s arrest when I was called by the Malamulele police, but as station commissioner I condemn the involvement of police in criminal activities,” he said.
