Water supply stable for now

The current water situation in Louis Trichardt has definitely improved, although it is still far from ideal.

Through the municipality’s measures of water restrictions and water shedding, the levels of reservoirs are currently being maintained at levels which allow for a constant water supply to town and the surrounds, barring unforeseen events.

This is the good news supplied by a municipal official in charge of the water supply to the Makhado municipal area. At times, the levels of the reservoirs reached 72%, but a leak to the main supply line from the Albasini Dam caused the levels to drop. The leak was repaired, but an interruption in the power supply on the main line once again caused a fluctuation. Currently, the reservoir levels are maintained at between 48% and 60%.

The water supply is opened every morning at around 03:30 and closed again at 12:00. At 16:00, it is reopened and is closed again at 21:00. Water is supplied to the SACM maximum security prison between 04:00 and 07:00 and again between 16:00 and 19:00. If this system can be maintained, the town will hopefully have a constant water supply for the foreseeable future. The only spanner in the works is the fact that some people still persist in watering their gardens as soon as a few drops become available.

Another source of comfort is the fact that the guarding of the pump stations seems to have the desired effect. Thus far, no cables have been stolen from any of the pump stations since the deployment of the guards and residents can only hope that the municipality will not consider removing the guards because of this fact.
