Former resident of Louis Trichardt and well-known cyclist Henco Nel (28) died suddenly on Wednesday last week in London where he has been living and working for the last few years.
Henco will be remembered by cyclists in the Far North as a talented and aggressive competitive cyclist, one who could always be relied on to attack early and often in any race. He started cycling for the Soutpansberg Cycling Club whilst still at school and was chosen as the club’s Sportsman of the Year in 1999.
After finishing school, he moved to Polokwane where he worked for a time as a gym instructor and continued his cycling career with Pietersburg Pedallers. He later managed a spinning studio in Hatfield, Pretoria.
Like so many youngsters in the Far North, Henco went to London to work on a two-year work visa and found that the lifestyle there was much to his liking, so he extended his work visa somewhat beyond the official two years.
According to a friend of the family, Mr Malcolm Tucker, Henco’s funeral was held in London on Tuesday.
“My family and I extend our sympathies and condolences to his parents, family and friends,” said Tucker.
