MUTALE – The police at Mutale have pledged a reward of R20 000 to anyone who has information that may lead to the arrest and conviction of the person who killed a 60-year-old woman, Mrs Masindi Makhokha, of Mukondeni village in the Dzimauli area.
According to the spokesperson of the Mutale Police station, Inspector Tshilidzi Nyambeni, Mrs Makhokha went missing on February 29 this year. She left home that morning and never returned. A case of a missing person was opened at the local police station a few days after the incident.
Both the police and the local residents embarked on an intensive manhunt, but Makhokha could not be found. About two months later, on April 18, young boys who were hunting wild animals in the bushes found a human skull and some remains.
Some clothes were found next to the remains. According to the police statement, the clothes were similar to the ones that Makhokha was wearing when she was last seen. That convinced many people, including the police, that what Makhokha had been murdered.
The boys who had discovered the remains and the clothes reported the matter to their parents, who in turn took the matter up with the local headman. The headman took it up with the police, who responded by opening a murder case.
Although it is now almost eight months since the case was opened, the police still have no clue about it. The police have offered a reward of R20 000 with the hope that, whoever has information relating to the case, will come out in the open. Those who have information may contact the police at Tel: 0726491105 or 0729090324.
