The Malamulele police are investigating the murder of a 15-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped and then stabbed 66 times at Madonsi Village in the Malamulele area last Thursday.
According to the police report, Nsovo Sambo, a Grade 10 learner at EPP Mhinga High School, was found lying on the ground, after she had been raped and stabbed several times all over her body. It was revealed that she was found early on Friday morning by passersby. Community members in the area are still stunned, shocked and frightened about the death of the young Nsovo, who died in a very cruel way.
The spokesperson for the Malamulele police, Insp Elson Matindani, confirmed the death of the girl. “It appeared that the incident happened on Thursday evening as the lifeless body of the young girl was only recovered on Friday morning,” he said. He added that when the victim was recovered, she had several stabbing wounds all over her body. Matindani acknowledged that a 26-year-old suspect had been arrested on Monday. The suspect had not yet appeared in court at the time of going to press.
Matindani added that the police had opened cases of rape and murder against the suspect. One of the community members who spoke to Mirror anonymously on Monday indicated that one could not be sure what had really transpired. It also gave all the parents in the area a fright and was a clear indication that their children were not safe any more.
