The auditor general, Mr Terence Nombembe, urged the Limpopo government to work extra hard to improve its administrative system, if it hopes to receive a clean financial audit report.
Nombembe was addressing members of the media in Polokwane before he presented an audit report to the Limpopo Legislature last Thursday.
It was said during the media conference that Nombembe was visiting all the nine provinces of South Africa, to give feedback on the performance of all provincial ad-ministrations. “I am currently visiting all provinces, with a main objective of giving feedback interims of performance by the provincial department’s administration,” he said.
According to Nombembe, he was concerned that Limpopo, despite having achieved unqualified reports in 13 departments in last year’s financial audits report, did not do well in terms of improving on its shortfalls for the 2008/9 financial year. He identified the eight provincial departments of Limpopo, such as provincial legislature, departments of economic development, education, health, local government and housing, public works, roads and transport and provincial treasury as problematic.
Meanwhile, the departments of agriculture, social development, sports, arts and culture, and the Office of the Premier were outlined as having best audit reports.
“This clearly indicates that the departments need to improve in terms of administration to can be able to have clean audits reports,” advised Nombembe.
