Last month, the Soutpansberg Mountain pass on the N1 North from Louis Trichardt was the scene of three accidents involving trucks. On January 4, the new year started off badly when a woman died in a collision between a truck and a van on the pass.

The woman (41) was a passenger in the cab of the truck, which was transporting waste paper to Gauteng. She died when the load of the truck landed on her during the accident. The cab of the truck was destroyed when it fell down the side of the mountain. Four other passengers from the two vehicles sustained injuries.

The police are currently investigating a case of culpable homicide.
