Town sees of of biggest weddings ever

News  Date: 23 January 2009

Over the past weekend, Louis Trichardt saw one of the biggest wedding ceremonies ever held in town when a local girl, Sumaiya Noor, got married to Yusuf Moola from Stanger in Kwazulu-Natal.

Sumaiya grew up in Louis Trichardt as one of the children of well-known residents Solly and Zohra Noor. She is the daughter of the late Abdool Sattar Noor, brother of Solly Noor, and Suraya Noor. After finishing her school career, she studied at Tuks in Pretoria and qualified as a dentist. She also met her future husband, Yusuf, at this university. Yusuf finished his studies and is now a qualified doctor.

The wedding ceremony took place on Friday night at the Mashid Al Noor mosque. This ceremony was attended by well over 600 guests that came from all over the country. A function was also held at the house of the Noor family for the guests.

On Saturday night, a function was held to celebrate the wedding at the parking garage behind Edgars in Louis Trichardt. This venue was necessary because of the number of guests who indicated they would attend. No other hall in town could accommodate the more than 1 200 guests. Few of the guests would, however, have guessed that the venue was a parking garage.

The area was beautifully decorated with chandeliers and even portable air conditioners were brought in from Johannesburg to make sure that everyone was comfortable in the heat. The catering was done by the very competent Solly Manjra company, who travelled all the way from Durban to ensure that everything was a success.

Apart from the exquisite food, the guests were also treated by a group of nationally acclaimed artists that travelled all the way from Cape Town.
