A well-known businessman at Tshilamba, Mutale, is challenging South Africa’s telecommunication giant to put their act together and show some responsibility.
Nnditsheni Neluvhada (63) says he is concerned that Telkom is putting the lives of the community and livestock at risk by leaving a big trench open for more than two months after digging it to put their cables in.
The trench was opened before Christmas in a busy area of Tshilamba complex, alongside the main road that crosses between the shops to the government’s offices. “My major concern is that this trench is putting the lives of people, es-pecially children and live-stock, at risk. The most surprising thing is that Telkom does not seem to care as they are not attempting to cover this trench,” says Ne-luvhada.
Meanwhile, Mirror witnessed a situation where a donkey was trapped in another trench that was also left open by Telkom workers, about a hundred metres away from where this big trench is.
Attempts to get com-ment from Telkom proved fruitless.
