In a heart-rending incident, a 24-year-old Beit Bridge woman is battling for her life at the Musina Hospital after sustaining severe bodily injuries. This was after she was allegedly scalded with hot water by another local woman, following a dispute over a man.
The suspect, Magret Mavhima (19) of House Number 484, Limpopo View, in the border town has since appeared before a Beit Bridge magistrate on charges of contravening a section of the Criminal Law Reform and Codification Act (assault). The case was postponed to 12 February for trial and no bail was granted to the accused.
The court heard that on 30 December last year, at around 17:45, Mavhima and the victim had a heated dispute in which the complainant allegedly accused the former of being a prostitute after she had allegedly snatched the accused’s husband.
However, during the process of exchanging harsh words, the court was told, Mavhima lost her temper and she then rushed to the kitchen where she took a 2-litre jug containing hot water and poured it onto the complainant, resulting in her sustaining severe burns all over her body.
A report was subsequently made to the police, leading to the arrest of Mavhima. The complainant was rushed to a Musina hospital for treatment.
