THOHOYANDOU – The official launching of the book, Building on the indigenous – an African perspective, was launched in the Sports Hall of the University of Venda on Monday evening.

The book is consists of contributions from different writers from universities, government, non-government organisations and traditional practitioners. According to a spokesperson of Univen, the university has established a centre for Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) and works closely with the traditional healers, traditional leaders and other intellectual people.

One of the editors of this book, Prof. Agnes Musyoki, told Mirror that the book is focusing on indigenous ways to eradicate poverty.

"I think through this book, which was written by African pioneers in different fields, we will go back to our roots to eradicate poverty. We are bringing out the best in the knowledge systems of our forefathers and applying knowledge to solving the problems that face us today. We will also publish a book aimed at uplifting Africa through the use of indigenous programmes," said Prof Musyoki.
