MAPAPILA – In an attempt to prove that there is progress when the private sector and the government are working together, the Old Mutual Foundation officially handed over a borehole and water tanks to Mbhanyele High School at Mapapila Village last Friday.

The school has been without water since 2000 and the principal, Mr TJ Maswanganyi, asked the Old Mutual Foundation to assist him in drilling a borehole at his school early this year. Old Mutual agreed to put aside R44 000 to be utilised for the borehole installation, two water tanks and piping.

According to Maswanganyi, the school’s stakeholders also raised R11 000 towards the project. “This donation is a relief to learners, teachers, and me. I hope and believe that everyone at the school would concentrate on education," Maswanganyi said.

Limpopo’s first lady, Mrs Ramokone Moloto, told the guests that, in future, learners will be able to perform all duties that need water without going through immense physical effort.

The circuit manager of Malamulele Central, Mr L Maluleke, said that, on behalf of the Department of Education, he accepted the project from Old Mutual very gladly. “We promise you that the water that you are giving us today will help our children and members of the community.”

The representative of the Old Mutual Foundation’s head office in Cape Town, Ms Liyanda Maseko, said that they are committed to giving the necessary support to education. “It is only when we are working together that we can be successful. The hierarchy of the past is over; what is left now is to envision the future.
