Police have warned residents, and more specifically business owners, of Louis Trichardt to exercise vigilance and report any suspicious-looking incidents or people.
This follows two successive armed robberies at the Steers/Debonairs fast food store in Burger Street.
About two weeks ago, three armed robbers stole a substantial amount of money from the store. The police are still investigating the matter and one suspect has been taken into custody. Police believe that this suspect is part of a crime-gang and that he may be linked to other robberies and housebreakings in the area.
More recently, Safari Motors in Hlanganani Street also became the victim of armed robbers.
In the early morning hours of Saturday, April 25, two men, one armed with a gun, entered the store. The armed robber started to wave his weapon around and threatened the cashier. At one stage, the robber even cocked his gun and pointed it straight at the cashier’s face.
The robbers then continued to empty out the cash-drawer. They managed to take flight with an unknown amount of cash. Fortunately, nobody was injured in the incident. Presently the police are still busy taking statements and investigations are continuing.
In the meantime, police from Musina are still investigating the armed robbery that took place about two weeks ago. The Zoutpansberger reported on this incident last week, which took place near the Baobab Petroleum station, where one security guard was shot dead. One suspect was arrested, but later released because of a lack of evidence. Investigations are still continuing.
