A group of Louis Trichardt women took the lead by chartering a new service club for South Africa, called Agora.

Initiated by Louis Trichardt ladies, Agora Club SA was chartered on February 7 this year in Johannesburg, along with two clubs, Louis Trichardt Agora Club 1 being the first. South Africa is the tenth country to be chartered into this international organisation. It is a service club for women over the age of 42.

Agora is a Greek word meaning “a place where friends meet” and their motto is Service and Tolerance. Their main aim here will be to support Ladies Circle and other organisations in fundraising efforts for the underprivileged.

Local founder members of Agora Club SA and Agora Club 1 are Pam Schoeman (Vice-chair Agora Club 1), Pam McCabe (Secretary Agora Club 1 and National Secretary Agora Club SA), Lodene Purdon (National Treasurer Agora Club SA), Sandy van Niekerk (Chair Agora Club 1 and National Vice-president Agora club SA), Angela Brennan (Treasurer Agora Club 1), Carole Went and Diane Bannetyne.
