Granny upset with man who "rapes" her pig

A Limpopo granny is very upset with the Malamulele police, who allegedly refuse to act against a young man whom she accuses of having raped her pig. Instead of opening a case of bestiality, she says the police want to settle the matter by getting the parties to speak to each other.

According to Khubani Khosa (65), of Shihosani village outside Malamulele, she woke up the past weekend and heard noises coming from her pig sty. When she investigated, she found a young man busy having sex with one of her pigs. She recognised the young man and called out his name, asking him what he was busy doing. The young man then fled without saying anything.

Ms Khosa went to his home, but he was nowhere to be found. She then informed his parents about the incident and returned home. According to her, the young man returned later that night, kicking against her door and threatening to kill her. He only left when one of Ms Khosa’s neighbours arrived. The incident was reported to the Ma-lamulele police the next morning. “The police visited me on two occasions and told me to sit down with the suspect and discuss the matter, but how can I do that?” asked Ms Khosa.

According to Ms Khosa she found underwear and a hat in the pigsty the next morning. When she confronted the young man’s parents, they allegedly confirmed that the garments belonged to the suspect. She further alleges that the young man ran away when the police wanted to question him. “I just want justice to prevail. In the meantime, I don’t feel safe as I am living on my own,” the granny said.

Provincial spokesperson for the SA Police Service Superintendent Ronel Otto said that no case of bestiality was opened by the Malamulele Police Station.

Acts of bestiality are not uncommon in the area and in 2005 a man from the same village was sentenced to nine months in prison after being found guilty of raping a goat.
