Will Connie go to Las Vegas? In about two months the final results of the photo competition for the global Goldwell colour award will be announced.
In the meantime, hairstylist Connie de Sousa from Louis Trichardt and hair model Juanice Slabbert can dream about the possibility of attending the international awards function in Las Vegas in October this year. Entries are done by means of photographs, and the photo of Juanice’s hairstyle was chosen as one of the top five in the country. The five top photos are sent to Germany to be judged by international, independent hairdressers, professional press members and fashion experts. National winners in each of two categories will be invited to Las Vegas for the live international hands-on competition. Around 35 nations take part in the competition.
Connie and Nolean Dercksen of C Jay’s hair salon both entered Goldwell’s Elumen Colorist Category and chose to interpret the Virtualist trend, a trend that combines “futuristic styles with mystical-heroic elements”, as explained by the Goldwell Trend Zoom Color Challenge 2009 competition brochure. Nolean created a Virtualist style for Kendel Newell and received favourable comments from the judges. All photos were taken by photographer Yolandé Naudé.
If Connie is selected to go to Las Vegas, it will be the second time that she will represent her country at the international Goldwell Awards, the first time being in Berlin in 2004. In 2005, Luanri Fick was selected to go to Amsterdam.
“Over the last five years, it became more and more difficult to reach the finals. I was very lucky this year. Recently they have changed the competition, so that we take our hair models with and redo the whole style at the international competition. But can you imagine going to Las Vegas?” Connie said.
Last year, the photos of both Connie and Luanri’s creations were sent to Germany for the final judging.
In the meantime, Connie was also selected as one of four hairdressers in the country to take part in Intercoiffure’s step-by-step demonstration of hair and colour creations. A DVD was made in Johannesburg when they showed their expertise on June 8. Intercoiffure’s DVD will be launched at the Hair and Beauty Expo on August 30 at Gallagher Estate in Midrand. “This is an ongoing project and we will be in Mossel Bay in October … well, if we are not in Las Vegas …” Connie said.
