Buffaloes frighten Dimani villagers

News  Date: 02 April 2004

DIMANI - The roaming of two stray buffaloes near Dimani Village, 47 km outside Thohoyandou, is frightening to the community.

The two buffaloes were seen in the grazing area last Wednesday and stock farmers have already notified the traditional leader, the police and the office of the Department of Environmental Affairs.

The environmental officer, Mr MS Mashele, told Mirror that rangers have been deployed to trace them. It is said that the two buffaloes had already crossed the Luvuvhu River into the Malamulele area last week.

Mr Mashele said his department has not yet been informed about any damage caused by the buffaloes, and that the communities will be informed about their progress.

"People are not allowed to chase the buffaloes because we have our own rangers, trained to chase dangerous animals like buffaloes.
