Leopards to play first league match away

News  Date: 31 July 2009

While the affiliates for the Absa Premiership resume with the activities for the new season next week, the National First Division (NFD) teams will wait for two weeks before they start with their league programme.

The NFD fixture list was released early this week.

A quick glance at the fixture list shows that two of the three Limpopo-based sides, Black Leopards and Winners Park, will play their opening matches away from home, while Dynamos will open their league programme by entertaining their home supporters.

The first matches will be played on Friday, August 21, while the other fixtures will be played the following day. Black Leopards will travel all the way to the Absa Stadium in Pretoria. They will battle it out for league points against the University of Pretoria.

University of Pretoria, or Amatuks, missed a place in the promotional play off matches by inches last season. Winners Park will be the visiting side in their match against African Warriors, which will be played at the Charles Mopedi Stadium in the Free State.

Dynamos will host the newly promoted United at the Lulekani Stadium in Baphalaborwa. Witbank Spurs, who narrowly survived the chop at the end of last season, will also play away from home. They will test their strength against the other newcomers, Batau.

The fixtures for the Coastal Stream are: Ikapa Sporting vs Nathi Lions, Vasco da Gama vs Bay United, FC Cape Town vs Hanover Park and Thanda Royal Zulu vs Carara Kicks. According to the general manager of the Premier Soccer League, Mr Ace Ncobo, the kick-off date for the National First Division league programme was delayed by the fact that the two newly promoted clubs, Batau and United, took long to confirm their home grounds with the league.
