Municipality has scooped yet another important provincial award. This time it is the Workplace Learning of the Year from the Local Government Sector Education and Training Authority (LGSETA) for the development and implementation of workplace training amongst its employees.
The LGSETA is one of the 23 Sector Education and Training Authorities established on the grounds of the Skills Development Act. It is the purpose of any SETA to uplift the skills level of workers and employees working in their sector.
The LGSETA thought of a way of acknowledging a job well done without informing the municipalities. The workplace learning plan of Musina Municipality was found to be the best when compared to other municipalities in the province. The award goes with a cash prize of R30 000.00 which must be used for skills development for work-ers.
It was further recorded that the workplace learning plan for Musina Municipality has succeeded in addressing training needs and interventions for both professional and general workers in the institution. This has been done with the support of the Department of Provincial and Local Government, the South African Local Government Association (SALGA) as well as a wide range of other relevant stakeholders.
The skills development facilitator for Musina Municipality, Ms Dolly Netshisaulu, said it is encouraging for the municipality to get recognition for bringing a better life to all its employees. “We are very happy to be counted among the best, although we are not doing it for name or fame. We will continue to empower our people with the relevant skills and knowledge to mould them into responsible and valuable community members.”
