Residents again have to endure water shortages

News  Date: 04 September 2009

The Makhado Municipality has called upon residents of Louis Trichardt to be patient while they are working to fix the problem with the recent water shortages experienced.

According to a municipal press release, this shortage is due to a water pipe that burst at one of the municipality’s pump stations. Areas affected, according to the municipality, included Makhado Park, Makhado Crossing, Eltivillas and Extension 9. The expectation was that the water supply would have been restored by the end of Monday.

However, on Wednesday, residents from the affected parts and other parts of town not included in the list of affected areas still experienced water shortages.

Municipal spokesperson Mr Louis Bobodi responded by saying that technicians were working tirelessly to fix the pipe and that the problem would be resolved soon.

“People must just bear with the municipality,” he said.

In the meantime, residents are starting to lose patience with the municipality’s lack of proper planning and its inability to maintain the dilapidated infrastructure in town. This follows after Bobodi explained that the municipality was dealing with the water problem by providing water tankers “at strategic points in town.”

When asked where these “strategic points” were, Bobodi replied that “the people know where they are.” Very few people, however, know where these tankers can be found.
