Night of embarrasment for Terminator

News  Date: 02 April 2004

GIYANI - A local promising boxer, Ndifelani "Terminator" Manyelenyele, will not forget last Saturday night easily. He was embarrassingly beaten with a TKO by his Gauteng-based opponent, Peter Mashamaite, during the Afri-Fist Boxing Promotions professional tournament that was staged in the Giyani Town Hall.

As if he were hypnotised, Manyelenyele showed no commitment from the start and his opponent kept on pushing him from one corner to the other with his hot punches. The referee, Ms Sylvia Maphangule was forced to stop the fight in the sixth round to save Manyelenyele’s life. At that stage, Manyelenyele was bleeding profusely from the mouth.

Balanganani Ndou was too strong for Sizwe Nkosi in their featherweight division fight that lasted for six rounds. The fight should have been stopped in the fourth round, but Nkosi endured the killer punches from Ndou up to the bitter end.

Aubert Mchabi from Gauteng beat a local boxer, Avhaathu Muleka, on points in their featherweight division fight that was fought over six rounds. The judges declared the fight between Avhashoni Mbedzi and Andries Phetla a draw after the two exchanged hard blows throughout their exciting fight that also lasted for six rounds.

In their international junior welterweight division fight, Florentino Pedro from Angola lost to Alvin Mahonisi from Giyani on points. The fight lasted for eight rounds.

The main bout was between Willie Mabasa and Michael Matsunyane. Although Mabasa is originally from Malamulele, he is now based in Gauteng. The fight was a thriller from the onset to the final ending. Mabasa convinced the judges, as he collected the majority of the points in the fight.

The next professional boxing in the area will be staged at the Thohoyandou Town Hall on Saturday, April 24.
