The acting regional manager of the SABC in Limpopo, Freddy Sadiki, officially launched the “Adopt a School” project at Manaledzi Secondary school at Tshiozwi village a fortnight ago.
According to Sadiki, the SABC´s Adopt a School project is an SABC Education initiative to help improve the Grade 12 year-end results. “The formal education and outreach units of SABC Education identify low-performing schools and analyze the reasons contributing to the poor performance. The units then try and develop a turn-around strategy in consultation with the schools, communities, districts and the provincial and national departments of education,” he said.
He added that the adopted schools had been equipped with the technological capacity that gives learners access to content provided by SABC Education and other programmes to help pupils obtain good results at the end of Grade 12.
He further outlined that the emphasis will be on mathematics, science, biology and English.
Mirror learnt that Manaledzi is one of the 15 schools which were identified by the SABC Education unit in the country. Learners at Manaledzi were over the moon when they heard about this. The principal of Manaledzi High School, Mr George Mathivha, promised the SABC that the school will work hard, so that the partnership can be fruitful. “I really appreciate what the SABC is doing for the school. It is true that we need to change and move up another level in terms of performance,” he said.
According to Sadiki, who is Phalaphala FM’s manager, the SABC has identified and installed the equipment suitable to meet all needs of the project. Online FET tutors are to be available to offer assistance, using the network platforms available to the multi-media centre at the school.
One of the learners, Takalani Masia, urged other learners to work hard in order for them to achieve good results. Masia appreciated the efforts shown by the SABC with regard to improving the performance of learners at the school.
