MAKHADO (LOUIS TRICHARDT) – Serious damage was caused to various roads in the Makhado Municipal area by the prevailing rain.
Roads that are in a dangerous condition and should receive urgent attention are the road from Riverplaats to Mashamba, from Mashamba to Tshitale and to Nthabalala, together with the road to Vuwani and the road to Nngwekhulu through Davhanai village to Vuwani.
The Democratic Alliance, in a media statement, warned motorists who use the secondary road from Louis Trichardt to Vivo. Dangerously deep potholes appeared after the rain and there are no road signs to warn motorists.
"We request all motorists to be exceptionally careful during the night and when it rains. We call upon the Department of Public works to at least provide warning signs at such points."
In town, the tar surface is breaking up on the corner of Krogh and Rissik Street. The tar surface in Rissik Street is also in a very bad condition in places, and various other streets in town share the same problem.
"The DA wishes to remind all three spheres of government that there is a constitutional obligation on government to maintain the assets of the country. If the government demands from the public to make sure that their vehicles are roadworthy, surely the public can demand from the various levels of government to make that possible. It is hard to understand how anybody can keep his/her vehicle roadworthy when the roads are in such a dangerously bad condition," the statement reads.
