A manhunt was launched by the police after a truck driver from Musina was shot at during an attempted robbery on Monday morning.
The driver was en route to Gauteng with a load of mielie meal, when the incident occurred just past NorthGate Lodge on the N1 south of Louis Trichardt. A light sedan overtook the truck and fired random shots in the direction of the heavy vehicle. Some of the shots went through the windscreen and passenger window of the truck, narrowly missing the driver.
Luckily, the driver managed to make a U-turn and he drove straight to the police station in Louis Trichardt. By the time the police went to investigate the matter, the culprits were long gone.
Police suspect that the robbers where looking for cash, because the truck driver had been robbed on two previous occasions. Police spokesperson Capt Maano Sadike said that police had opened a case of attempted murder and that investigations were continuing.
Anyone with information that might help the police to make an arrest is requested to phone them on their emergency number on 083 206 5594.
