Politicians carry the coffin of the late Timothy Maanda.

“Timothy Maanda’s death is a huge loss to government and the community”

Several politicians, led by provincial ANC deputy chairperson Dickson Masemola, the MEC for Public Works, George Phadagi, the Speaker of the Limpopo Legislature, Rudolph Phala, his deputy, Merriam Ramadwa, Vhembe Executive Mayor Falaza Mdaka, Makhado Mayor Mavhungu Luruli, guests, members of the community and family attended the funeral of well-known politician Timothy Maanda.

Maanda died in a vehicle accident after his car hit a stray cow on the road a fortnight ago. He was buried at the Gogobole cemetery on Sunday.

Masemola said Maanda´s death was a great loss to the ANC government and the community as a whole. He described Maanda as a brave politician, who was loyal to the government and to his fellow man. "Maanda was a responsible man who was concerned about the safety of every South African citizen," said Masemola. He described the death of Maanda as a terrible blow to the community of Limpopo.

MEC George Phadagi added that the provincial government would always remember Maanda’s contribution to the development of the community. “He has been our ambassador and Limpopo province is what it is today because of his contributions. We are shocked by his sudden departure. I would like to extend our condolences to the bereaved family and assure them of our unending support during this trying moment. It is difficult for all of us to accept what happened, but we must also understand that God does His will in His own time.”

Many speakers expressed their condolences to the Maanda family and said the deceased had been a hard worker.

He is survived by his two wives, seven children, amongst them a four-month-old baby.
