MAKHADO (LOUIS TRICHARDT) - A case of malicious damage to property is to be filed after several political posters in town have been damaged.
In a media statement, the Democratic Alliance emphasised the fact that all political posters are assets of the various political parties and should not be removed by anyone without the necessary authorization.
A DA poster on the corner of Eland and Bauhinia Street was ripped off and damaged. At Ricky's Supermarket somebody who tried to rip the paper off damaged another one. At the corner of the N1 and Stubbs Street, a poster was damaged by road workers and in Krogh Street, a DA poster was covered by an ANC sticker.
The DA called upon all to exercise restraint and to be tolerant.
"The Independent Electoral Commission alone cannot ensure a free and fair election. We must all participate and make sure that our country can be proud of this election. We must all work hard to make democracy a reality. One way to do that is to be tolerant and to allow all political parties to state their case," the statement reads.
