The Grade 12 students at Ridgeway College in Louis Trichardt who wrote their first IEB (International Examination Board) exams at the end of 2009 received excellent results.
The college’s Matamela Maiwashe and Kashmal Kalan were among only 48 IEB students in the country who received awards for outstanding and commendable achievement by obtaining distinctions in six of their subjects, including Life Orientation.
Ridgeway College appears on the commendation list along private schools such as Roedean, Hilton College, St Stithians and Kearsney. Furthermore, Matamela was also ranked in the top 1% of IEB students, receiving a distinction for both Mathematics and Mathematics Paper 3. Fellow students Fatima Chhaya and Nimay Radia were also top of their class with six distinctions and two Bs.
Overall, Ridgeway College students obtained five distinctions out of a possible twelve for Accounting, ten As out of possible 24 for Life Orientation, five As out of a possible 18 for Life Sciences, two out of a possible ten for Maths Literacy, four distinctions out of a possible 14 for Mathematics and Mathematics Paper 3 and four As out of a possible 12 for Physical Science.
“This again showed that they are able to compete with the top schools in the country,” said the college’s bursar, Charmaine Waller.
