The ANC Youth League of the Makhado sub-region has called upon the principal of Ravhuhali High School at Matshavhawe in the Dzanani area to promote Phathutshedzo Tshivhase and Lutendo Tshiambaro, who were in Grade 11 last year, to Grade 12.

This comes after Tshivhase (16) and Tshiambaro (19), who received their reports on January 7 this year, which indicated that they had failed, had discovered reports on them at the school´s dumping site on January 12, indicating that they had passed.

When Mirror visited the school with a delegation of the Youth League last Friday, Tshivhase was not at school. He told Mirror that he did not go to school that day, because he was not feeling well.

Tshivhase said when he got hold of the report card that indicated that he had passed Grade 11, he had already admitted that he had failed. “Now that I got another report that indicates that I passed, I am frustrated and unable to concentrate in class. That is why I did not go to school today,” he said.

After obtaining the second report card, he said he went to the principal. “When I approached the principal with the report, he told me that there had been a mistake and that I had to return the report to him, which I never did. I know I did not fail, as I was studying very hard,” he said.

“The Youth League will never ever allow a situation where the management of the school will abuse the intelligence of the scholars by their mismanagement skills. We are going to engage the MEC for Education, Mr Namane Masemola, to allow the two to go to Grade 12. There must be justification for this. The learners are emotionally affected because they had already accepted that they had failed, only to discover that they had passed,” said the secretary of the Makhado sub-region of the ANC Youth League, Chris Mulaudzi.

The principal of the school, Mr PR Fhedzi, said that there had been a mistake. He said the marks which were on the reports were not correct. “It is a mistake made by a temporary teacher, who was supposed to have destroyed the reports,” he said. Fhedzi admitted that the reports had been dumped at the school´s dumping area. Officials from the Department of Education also visited the school for investigations.

When contacted for comment, the spokesperson for the Limpopo Department of Education, Mr Ndo Mangala, said departmental officials were busy investigating the matter, checking all the schedules at the schools.

Mirror is in a possession of a report that indicates that Tshivhase had passed.
