Beloved Limpopo journalist Vhulahani Robert Nevhulaudzi was buried at the Muledane graveyard, outside Thohoyandou, on Sunday. At the time of his death, Nevhulaudzi, was a freelance field reporter for Jacaranda RMFM.

He played a vital role in the development of journalism by grooming young journalists as he was one of the founders of the Vhembe Journalists Forum. Apart from his involvement in journalism, Nevhulaudzi participated in different community structures and he strived for the development of his community until his last day on earth. He died last week at Polokwane Provincial Hospital after a short illness.

Vho Thovhele Midiyavhathu Tshivhase described the death of Nevhulaudzi as a big blow to development. “He dedicated his life to serving the community without expecting anything in return. He would respond to any call at short notice, and we will miss him,” said Tshivhase.

During the funeral, the mayor of Musina Municipality, Caroline Mahasela, described Nevhulaudzi as a great man whose sweat and hard work had brought many changes in the community he served. She said Nevhulaudzi was a mentor to young journalists, an icon of hope, a role model and a true leader who displayed distinguished leadership skills in his society. She described the death of Nevhulaudzi as a terrible blow to the media fraternity.

“Death has taken a real comrade, confidante and inspirational journalist from both young and old people in our community. We are seriously saddened by his death, because he still had so much to offer to this community, she said.

Owen Muebi, who represented members of the media during the funeral, said the cruelty of death had robbed the media of one of the most reliable journalists. “He was always there whenever he was needed. The media industry will no longer be the same without him. He might have gone, but his good work will remain to be seen.”

Tributes poured in from relatives and friends, the management of Jacaranda RMFM, members of the ANC, SANCO, ANC Youth League, ANC Women’s League, Tshivhase Pastors Forum and the Tshivhase Territorial Council.
