The Musina Municipality has turned to the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) for assistance, due to the current low cash flow experienced by the municipality.
This comes after the municipality had used a major portion of its finances on unfunded mandates like the eclipse festival, influx of foreign nationals and the recent cholera outbreak.
Municipal manager Mr Abram Luruli and Mayor Caroline Mahasela will appear before Scopa and update the committee on the circumstances that led to the continuous acquisition of clean audit reports by the municipality.
“We will also update the committee about problems related to our low cash flow and make recommendations for the committee to assist the municipality. We have already sent a letter to Scopa and we are only waiting for them to give us a date,” said Luruli.
Luruli said the municipality had decided to approach Scopa after both the national and provincial departments failed to assist the municipality financially to address unfunded mandates.
“We hope the meeting will bring relief to the municipality and enhance our mandate of delivering efficient services to our people.”
