A charitable businesswoman, who has donated a five-bedroom house to a homeless mother of two, has appealed to the community to assist the poor woman.

Stella Nkuna, the managing director of Tiveka Bukuta game lodge, donated a house to Rosina de Lange (40), a woman who had been admitted at the eVuxakeni hospital for mental patients and rehabilitation centre. Since 2003, the hospital did not know where to release the poor woman to, since she said she was coming from Venda but had no relatives.

The hospital negotiated with Nkuna, who agreed to build a house for the poor woman, but the problem was to find a suitable place. Chief Siyandhani then agreed to donate a portion of his land for this purpose. The house was officially handed over on Tuesday at a function organised by the Greater Giyani municipality.

Nkuna surprised everybody when it was found that the house had five cosy rooms instead of the expected three. She said that as a Christian she believed that God blessed her and therefore He wanted her to help other people. She said that whatever she had done for the poor woman was not enough and other South Africans had to play their part to make the life of this poor woman better. “There is no burglar proofing, she has no food and there is also no fencing in her yard,” said Nkuna.

The mayor of the Greater Giyani Municipality, Dorris Mathebula, also called on the community to give whatever they had to assist the poor woman. She herself pledged to donate pots. The speaker of the Greater Giyani Municipality requested everybody to make a donation and R2 000 was raised on the spot.
