MOPANI – The police in Mopani made a huge breakthrough during their operation 'Work, Work and Work' last weekend. According to Capt Moatshe Ngoepe, the SAPS spokesperson in the area, a total of 132 people were arrested for various offences during the operation.

The suspects were, according to the police statement, arrested for offences that they had committed during the past months. Their offences vary from housebreaking and theft, murder, rape, possession of unlicensed firearms and theft from motor vehicles.

The suspects were still to appear in court at the time of going to press. The statement indicates that the police had confiscated a large amount of dagga and stolen goods during the operation. A total of 13 728 people and 1 948 vehicles were searched at the roadblocks.

In the statement that was released by the police this week, they revealed that the operation would continue until the rate of crime drops in the area. The police have also arrested a 21-year-old man and charged him with murder, following the death of his wife.

The incident took place at the South Amptol Farm near Phalaborwa on Monday morning. The statement indicates that the 20-year-old woman's naked body was found alongside the road in the bushes.

The deceased was a student at the Magoebaskloof Stanford College. The suspect was still to appear in court at the time of going to press.
