Braille printer for Libwo

News  Date: 28 November 2003

MAKHADO - The Limpopo Blind Workers Organisation (Libwo) recently bought a much-needed Braille printer that will help the organisation to keep functioning.

This followed after they had received a donation from the Vhembe District Municipality.

According to a spokesperson for Libwo, one of the main aims of the organisation is to help and develop the blind people from a disadvantaged background.

The chairperson of Libwo, Ms Khathutshelo Kwinda, told Mirror that the vision of Libwo is to take care of those people who are blind, and who are not accepted in everyday society.

Libwo plans to establish a new magazine, called "Libwo News", which will publish the achievements of blind people. The main concern of Libwo was to get a Braille printer. The members of Libwo used to go to a lot of trouble to travel to Johannesburg to get their documents printed. Therefore, Libwo decided to buy a new Julient Pro 60 printer, worth R45 000. Along with this, officials of Neville Clarence Technology visited the Libwo office to install the printer and to train the staff in using it.

Although a printer has now been bought, there still exists a need for new computers, as Libwo is still using old computers, which regularly fail to function properly.

Mr Khathutshelo Kwinda, Chairperson of Libwo, appealed to the public for assistance, because they are training blind people free of charge, and their expenses are very high. He emphasised the fact that funds are urgently needed. Anyone who needs any information, or can assist in funding the organisation, can contact the chairperson of Libwo, Khathutshelo Kwinda, at 072 307 4477.
