The shocking murder at Ha Mutsha Tshidavhini, in which a defenseless gogo, Vho Avheani Nevhutalu, was mercilessly killed in an attack, experienced a new twist when the woman´s daughter-in-law was arrested for her alleged part in the murder. Thivhadini Nevhutalu (37) of Ha Mutsha and her three accomplices were arrested over the weekend after intensive police investigations. She and Kenneth Mandlazi (27) from Tembisa in Gauteng, Amos Madzinge (37) of Tshisahulu and Christopher Phakamisa (47) from Tembisa appeared briefly at the Vuwani Magistrate´s Court on Tuesday. They were charged with murder and were not granted bail. Their case was postponed to June 18 for further investigations. The police are investigating rumours that the plot to murder granny Avheani Nevhutalu is alleged to have been masterminded by her daughter-in-law, who allegedly suspected the gogo to have had a hand in the death of her husband. Levubu police spokesperson Warrant Officer Solly Mukhola said they spent sleepless nights trying to unravel the mystery surrounding the death. He said after intensive investigations, they managed to have a breakthrough and arrested the suspects at different locations over the weekend. Mukhola thanked the community for their help in cracking the case. “We lack words enough to thank our communities for the support they are giving us in the fight against crime. As police alone we would never win the fight against this scourge called crime that is threatening to destabilize our communities and even scarring our visitors. We are again appealing for continued support and surely together we will be heading straight for a crime-free society, “he said. Gogo Avheani Nevhutalu died a gruesome death on Thursday evening a fortnight ago after she was viciously attacked in her room by assailants who were unknown at the time. She cried for help but no one came to her rescue and her bloodied body was found after the attackers had left the house. Her daughter was seriously injured during the attack. Community leader and ward 27 Makhado municipal councillor Ntshengedzeni Matodzi openly condemned the brutal murder. He hailed the arrest as breakthrough not only for the police but also for the community, which has become riddled with crime. “We commend the police for the speedy arrest of the alleged perpetrators and we just hope that this will deter those still believing that crime pays. They will not have a place to hide even if they go overseas; the police will hunt them and bring them to book,” he said.
