A visit to the local car wash turned into a disaster for a resident of Vuwani, when his vehicle caught fire and was turned into a sad collection of metal and ash. Instead of helping to stop the fire, several people were watching it as if they were watching a film. The dark green VW Jetta car burnt to ashes when it was ready to be cleaned by car washers at the Vuwani Township. Vuwani Police spokesperson Elijah Malatije said that the owner of the car, Mr Azwihangwisi Maimela, had registered an Occurrence Book report, and not a case, because there was no criminal intent during the incident. “He told us that he didn’t know what the cause of fire was and he was still shocked by the incident. It is alleged that when the car washers started to wash the outside of the vehicle, they saw smoke coming from underneath the bonnet. The whole vehicle was soon engulfed in flames. A car washer, who identified herself as Gladys, said that the car’s owner did not leave the keys and the doors were locked when the incident occurred. Mr Maimela said that he had parked his car as usual for car wash and went to a salon to cut his hair. Suddenly he received a call from someone, who informed him about the burning of his car. Although the fire fighters tried their best to extinguish the fire, it was severely damaged.
