Her home was used to accommodate the homeless and people taking part in the liberation struggle. Unexpectedly, she received high honours from the community for what she has done in the past. Community members, politicians and church leaders came together last week to honour granny Noriah Shishavele (78), for her service towards humanity. Amongst the well-known people she took under her wings were Mr Cyril Ramaphosa, Mr Collins Chabane, Minister in the Presidency, Dr Tshenuwani Farisani, former Limpopo Legislature speaker, Mr George Negota, and many more. Granny Shishavhela said she gave the people food during the struggle days, but also preached to them the Word of God. Because she loved God and all people, she was against xenophobia, tribalism, criticism and racism, she said. That´s why people were using her home as a place of safety and peace. The mother of six children started to preach and teach young children under the avocado tree in 1972, before she built the church structure. She travelled to many places abroad and inland when she was preaching the word of God and she added that several churches longer existed because pastors were not preaching the word of God. ”Our people and country need salvation, to be born again, fight with devil and pray for our leaders." A community member, Ms Tintswalo Mashaba, said that granny Shishavele was a real Samaritan, because she was taking care of everybody by giving them food and drink. She also taught children how to pray to God in Sunday schools in different areas around Venda and Gazankulu.
