The residents of Tshivhiludulu village in the Tshakhuma area outside Louis Trichardt are still shocked by the gruesome death of a 24-year-old woman who was found raped and murdered on one of the farms at Levubu last Tuesday. Ms Ndivhudza Mavhungu´s lifeless body was found lying on the ground and, according to the police report, she had been raped before she was killed. She was apparently kidnapped, raped and killed while on her way to work. When Mavhunga woke up on Tuesday morning, her family members never thought that they would never see her alive again. Mavhunga, who was the breadwinner of her family, used to work at Martinas Farm in Levubu. The spokesperson for the Levubu police, Warrant Officer Solly Mukhola, confirmed the incident. He said that the incident occurred at approximately 05:10 in the morning. "The victim was presumably kidnapped on her way to work. When she did not reach her working place, her family became suspicious. Family members, together with the police, then embarked on a search and they looked for her all over the farms. Her lifeless body was later discovered at the Martinas farm," he said. He added that she had been discovered at about 17:00 the same day. "We believe that she was raped before she was murdered, as her pants were lying next to her legs and she was undressed. This is still to be confirmed by the post mortem," he said. Mukhola added that the police had opened a case of murder. "The dedicated team of police officers managed to arrest a suspect last Thursday in connection with the incident. The suspect, Ndondani Davhana (27), was charged with murder," he said. Davhana, a resident of Tshikonelo village outside Thohoyandou, was arrested at Ngwenani Ha-Themeli village where he is believed to have been hiding. He appeared before the Vuwani Magistrate last Friday, where the case was postponed to June 4. During Mirror´s visit to the family last Wednesday, the victim´s unemployed single mother, Ms Grace Mavhungu, said that she was saddened and still shocked by the death of her lovely daughter. "We do not know what we are going to do now that she passed away. She was the one who used to put food on the table," she said. She said that she did not even have enough money to bury her daughter, since she was unemployed. She is now appealing to any Good Samaritan who can assist the family with money to bury her daughter. According to Mavhungu, she had planned to bury her daughter tomorrow (Saturday). The family can be contacted at 072 343 6036 or 084 076 1069.
